The Booneville Bearcats suffered their first Conference 3A-4 loss of the season on January 7, a 55-54 overtime setback in Hackett, but due to the closure of area schools, including Booneville, have been unable to try to bounce back.

Games were scheduled this week at Waldron on Tuesday and at home against Paris on Friday but have been postponed. The Waldron makeup date has been announced as January 31.

In their latest game the Bearcats erased a 16-point first half deficit before eventually pulling ahead in the final quarter, touching off a seesaw affair over six minutes that saw regulation end with the teams knotted at 46-46.

The Bearcats (9-6, 3-1) actually had a final shot but couldn’t get it to fall.

The last shot scenario would repeat itself in the overtime as Hackett pulled ahead by four midway through the quarter but the Bearcats tied it at 54-54 in the final minute.

A free throw gave the Hornets the lead with 15.2 seconds to go and the Bearcats had a look at a game winning basket, but again the shot would not fall.

For the night Colter Fisher led the way with 16 points with Raiden Ferguson adding 13, Evan Escobedo 12 ,and C.J. Johnson (shown) nine.

For the year it has been Fisher, Johnson, and Escobedo leading the way with Fisher averaging 14.6, Escobedo 10.4 and Johnson 10.1 points per game. Arriving after the football season ended, Goers has contributed 6.6 per game.

Ferguson had a seven 3-point game last week as well and has scored 6.4 per night. London Lee, another of the proficient Bearcat 3-point shooters, averages 7.8 per tip.

Separated by a single rebound, Fisher and Escobedo have been the leaders at 5.7 and 5.6 per game.

Johnson is the leader in both steals and assists with just under two steals and 2.5 assists per contest. Fisher also averages a couple of assists per night with Escobedo contributing to almost two buckets each game.

The next scheduled game for the Bearcats is now Tuesday at Bearcat Gym against Charleston.
