LADY BEARCATS DOMINATE, CLINCH TITLE SATURDAY

The Booneville Lady Bearcats made quick work of Hackett Saturday afternoon, rolling to a 63-30 win to clinch an outright Conference 3A-4 title.

As the one-seed the Lady Bearcats are an automatic qualifier for the Class 3A Region 1 tournament which will be held February 23-26 at Bearcat Gymnasium.

The Lady Bearcats (22-0, 12-0) scored the first 15 points of the game, doing so in just 4:44 and the lead was no less than the 13-point margin after the first Lady Hornet points of the game.

Heaven Sanchez scored eight points in the game opening run and would lead the way with 14 for the day.

A 3 by Brooke Turner and a couple of Karmen Kent free throws pushed the lead to 20-2 through a quarter.

Scoreless in the first quarter, Leigh Swint scored eight second quarter points, on her way to 13 on the day, and it was 38-17 at the half.

By the intermission eight different Lady Bearcats had logged points.

The lead surpassed 30 with three minutes left in the third quarter and was at 57-24 after a Linley Garrett became the ninth to score with a basket that closed the scoring for the quarter.

There would be 10 different players score before it ended as June Gandarias scored on a drive to the basket.

The Lady Bearcats will play next today, closing out the homecoming night events with the nightcap on what is also senior night for Sanchez, Turner, Hayley Roberts, and Joleigh Tate, who scored nine points Saturday.
