In the end the margin was 30 points, but the Booneville Lady Bearcats were in a fight well into the third quarter of Tuesday’s 57-27 win over Waldron on homecoming/senior night.
The Lady Bearcats (23-0, 13-0) went four and a half minutes without scoring to start the second half, during which time Waldron got to within 31-24.
From then on it was all Lady Bearcats as they outscored their guests 26-3.
Carah Miller started the onslaught with a basket on an assists from Heaven Sanchez and it was 33-24. Miller would finish with 10 points.
Layla Byrum made one of two free throws after an intentional foul call and Hayley Roberts scored next to make it 36-24.
Roberts moved into double digits with the basket but the senior wasn’t finished as she would go on to score a season high 14.
A Roberts free throw and two by Joleigh Tate had the Lady Bearcats up 39-26.
The singles also started a 16-0 run that included points from Lexi Franklin, Roberts, Sanchez, and Tate. Sanchez wrapped up a nine point night with five points in the final quarter.
The Lady Bearcats went into halftime with a 31-20 edge but even that came after periods of duress.
Waldron scored the first four points and led 6-1 less than two minutes into the game.
A couple of baskets by Sanchez and free throws from Tate gave the Lady Bearcats a 7-6 edge.
It was tied at 8-8 when Miller had a conventional three-point play but the Lady Bulldogs were still within 14-10 when the quarter ended.
With Roberts scoring eight straight for the Lady Bearcats the lead grew to 22-13 and the advantage was twice 11 until June Gandarias drilled a 3 to make it 31-18.
Waldron would score the next six points before the Lady Bearcats took it over.
The Lady Bearcats will close out the regular season with a game at Paris Friday.
