Despite a furious fourth quarter comeback, the Booneville Junior High Lady Bearcats fell to Danville 31-30 in the opening round of the District 3A-4 tournament.
Danville jumped to a 14-2 first quarter lead and led by no less than seven points the entire first half.
A Harley Krigbaum free throw made it 20-9 at the intermission and Danville scored the first points of the second half to open their largest lead of the game at 13.
The lead was still eight, 25-17, when the third quarter ended.
With 3:43 to play it was a double digit advantage for the Lady Little Johns at 31-21, and even that came after a dual foul and technical call saw Mary Haynes hit three of four free throws.
That was also the point where the Lady Bearcats took over.
A 3 by Angie Brown (shown) cut it to 31-24 and Haynes hit another free throw for her 12th point of the night with 2:41 to play to make it 31-25.
A steal and a conventional three point play by Brown off the missed free throw had the Lady Bearcats within 31-28.
When Brown ran her game total to 17 with another basket it was 31-30 but the Lady Bearcats could not complete the comeback and saw their season come to an end.
