The Booneville Lady Bearcats scored five times with two down in the top of the fifth inning in Paris on the way to an 8-2 win.

There were two down in a 1-1 game when Leigh Swint singled home a go-ahead run and Lexi Franklin reached on a dropped third strike that allowed a run to score and make it 3-1.

Swint came home during Brooke Turner’s at bat and Turner (shown playing third base) was eventually hit by a pitch. A two run single by Joleigh Tate ran the score to 6-1.

Paris got a run back in the bottom of the inning but the Lady Bearcats (2-0) would get that run back in the sixth with one of three Lady Eagle errors allowing Roni Tillery to reach while Layla Brym, who had walked, come home.

Franklin started the Lady Bearcat seventh with a double and scored on a fly ball off the bat of Turner to make it 8-2.

Franklin struck out two – giving her 10 in the game – and pitched around an error in the bottom of the seventh to close it out for the Lady Bearcats.

The Lady Bearcats had taken a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a two-out double by Franklin that chased Byrum home after she reached on an error.

It stayed that way until Paris strung together three straight hits to start the bottom of the fourth. Franklin pitched out of the jam with a strikeout, inducing a pop out, and getting a ground out.

The Lady Bearcats are scheduled to face Hackett today.
