For five batters Tuesday all was well.

Brooks Herrera set Danville down in order in the first, then led off the Bearcat first with a double and scored on a Rylen Ray home run.

Rays' first home run of the season was about it for Bearcat highlights against Danville in what would be a 10-3 loss.

Danville scored six times in the top of the second taking advantage of two balk calls – one scored a run – and a pair of two-out softly hit singles with that combined to score three runs, and two other hits before Cam Osborne relayed to Jace Washburn who threw out a runner trying to go first to third.

Herrera (3-1) would go on to work five and two-thirds innings, coming out with the bases loaded but staring down a pitch count of 100. Herrera (shown tagging out a runner) struck out seven but walked four.

He allowed just one other run in an inning prolonged by a strikeout victim reaching followed by a sacrifice fly.

The Bearcats left two aboard in the fourth – Peyton Tatum reached on an error and Dunn Daniel singled – two more in the fifth after Ray reached on an error and Dax Goff walked, before finally scoring again.

Herrera reached after striking out in the seventh, Ray walked, and Goff reached on Danville’s fourth error to score the run but the Bearcats left two more aboard again when it ended.

Danville had added three seventh inning runs, taking advantage of a couple of walks – there were eight in the game -- a hit batter and an error.

The Bearcats (5-3, 0-1 3A-4 South) are set to play again Friday in Waldron.
