Peyton Tatum hit a home run and pitched into the sixth inning in an 8-1 win over Waldron Friday.
Tatum’s home run came in the third and followed Dax Goff being hit by a pitch and the lead was 3-0. Tatum became the fourth different Bearcat to hit a home run this season.
It was 7-0 by the end of the inning. Matt O’Bar drew a walk, Dunn Daniel was hit by a pitch and, with one out, a Jace Washburn single loaded the bases.
Waldron used a Dylan Todd grounder for an out at the plate but a walk – a passed ball during the at bat got Daniel home – Ry Ray slapped a ball that got by the third baseman. Washburn scored easily and Todd was awarded home due to interference and it was 6-0.
Goff followed with a run-scoring single but the inning ended with courtesy runner Blazen Jones being run down for the final out.
The Bearcats (6-3, 1-1 3A-4 South) left the bases loaded for the second time in the fifth but pushed across another run in the sixth.
Tatum walked and was at second when Daniel was hit by a pitch. Tatum stole third and came home on a throwing error to make it 8-0.
Tatum (2-0) gave up a home run to Waldron’s Blake Owens leading off the bottom of the sixth then got a deep fly ball for the first out but at 86 pitches for the day, he was lifted for Goff.
Goff finished the inning with a pair of strikeouts and he fanned two ore in the seventh after allowing just one hit.
The Bearcats left the bases full in the first – Tatum had drawn one of the two walks he took on the day – but Tatum also got out of a bases loaded situation in the bottom of the first with the first of his eight strikeouts.
Cam Osborne led off the Bearcat second with a single and was sacrificed to second by Washburn. Osborne scored the first run on a single by Todd.
The Bearcats will next play Tuesday at Cossatot River. The Eagles are also 1-1 in 3A-4 North play.
