LADY BEARCATS WRAP UP DIVISION TITLE WITH BIG WIN

The Booneville Lady Bearcats scored nine first inning runs and coasted to a 21-4 win over Cossatot River to wrap up conference play Friday.

The Lady Bearcats (16-1, 6-0 3A-4 South) will be the one seed from the division in next week’s district tournament in Cedarville and are assured of a Class 3A Region 1 berth.

Caroline Smithson punctuated the Lady Bearcat 20 hit attack with an inside the park home run that drove in three – giving her four RBI on the day.

After Cossatot rook a 1-0 lad, the first six Lady Bearcats reached via base hit – including a Layla Byrum double – a Lady Eagle error, or a walk.

After two were down Karmen Kent doubled home two and two hitters later Bryum’s second double chased home two more with a third scoring on an error and it was 9-1.

Byrum (shown) had three hits and four RBI on the day.

Lexi Franklin tripled to start a five run second that included doubles by Joleigh Tate, Hayley Lunsford and Kent.

Franklin and Tate both had three hit games with Tate accounting for four RBI.

The first six Lady Bearcat hitters reached again in a seven run fourth. Roni Tillery, who had three hits, started it with a walk before four straight singles and a Tate double had pushed the lead to 18-2.

An out later Smithson circled the bases with the ball in play.

Tillery (3-0) picked up the win in the circle, allowing five hits with a walk and a pair of strikeouts.

The Lady Bearcats were scheduled to host Gentry today and travel to Mansfield tomorrow. Instead there will be no game today and the Lady Bearcats will visit Gentry tomorrow.
