Booneville School District | 4/18/2022

With Matt O’Bar and five others recording two hit games, the Bearcats wrapped up 3A-4 South division play with a 16-5 win over Cossatot River Friday.

The Bearcats (12-3, 5-1 3A-4 South) are assured of at least a tie for the division title but will be the two-seed should Danville beat Waldron on Tuesday due to the tiebreaker. Should Waldron beat Danville the Bearcats will be the top seed.

The Bearcats also have a cross division game remaining on Thursday at Paris, but that game does not factor into district tournament seeding for the tournament which will be held in Cedarville next week.

Peyton Tatum drove in a first inning run, his first of three on the day, but the Eagles got that run back in the top of the second.

O’Bar (shown being hit by a pitch) led off the second with a double and scored the go-ahead run on a double by Jace Washburn. It was 6-1 by the time the inning ended.

After Dylan Todd worked a walk, Blazen Jones put down a squeeze on which Washburn was safe at the plate. A single by Brooks Herrera drove in Todd and a ground ball by Rylen Ray drove in Jones for a 5-1 lead.

Dax Goff reached on a fielder’s choice on which Herrera was erased at the plate but Goff stole second and third, and scored then the throw went into left field and it was 6-1.

Two hit batters and an errant pickoff throw got the Eagles a run in the third but a five run bottom of the inning stretched the lead to 10.

Dunn Daniel walked to start the Bearcat third and O’Bar doubled him home. Washburn picked up his second hit and Dylan Todd singled and it was 8-2.

Washburn scored on a wild pitch and consecutive sacrifice flies by Herrera and Ray scored two before Goff doubled and Tatum singled home a run to make it 12-2.

After two were down in the Cossatot fourth the Bearcats had made two errors and with three hits Cossatot scored three times to make it 12-5 before Ray threw out a runner attempting to steal third.

Jones was hit by a pitch to start the Bearcat fourth and Herrera beat out a bunt for his second hit. Ray reached on an error to score a run and Goff doubled home another to make it 14-5.

Tatum reached on another error and Daniel grounded out to score a run and make it 16-5.

Including two strikeouts Herrera (4-1) retired the side in order in the fifth to end it early. Herrera struck out 11 and walked none.

The Bearcats were scheduled to travel to Perryville today but the game has been cancelled. The next scheduled game is now at Mansfield tomorrow.
