Ferguson, Jr Lady Bearcats Win District Meet

With Anna Ferguson scoring 40.5 points, which was more than all but her own team and meet runner-up Waldron, the Booneville Junior Lady Bearcats won the 3A-4 District track meet in Waldron Thursday.

Ferguson won the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:08.60. Her closest competitor was 1.81 seconds back. She also ran a leg of winning the 4x100-meter relay race. Those were worth a combined 12.5 points.

Ferguson picked up 16 points for finishing second in both the pole vault (shown) at 6’ 6” and the 110-meter hurdles at 19.17.

She was third in the triple jump at 28’ 11.5” and the 200-meter dash at 29.93 to add 12 more points.

Ferguson took the award despite a 38.5 point performance from teammate Ellie Smith.

Smith also ran a leg of the 4x100-meter relay win and she won both high jump, clearing 4’ 10”, and the long jump at 16’ 9”. Those results were worth 22.5 points.

Smith also ran second in the 100-meter dash at 13.90 and the 200-meter dash at 28.55 for another 16 points.

Ferguson and Smith aside, with the winning margin just 227-212, the Lady Bearcats won the meet by both winning and piling points in several events.

Field Events

In the high jump it was Lyddia Franklin tying for third and Alanna Helms taking sixth. Both cleared 4’ 4” and were placed through the tiebreaker.

Pressley Walker, who also had a huge day, was fourth in the long jump at 14’ 10”.

Walker won the triple jump with a mark of 30’ 6.5”, beating the field by more than a foot. Angie Brown was second at 29’ 5”.

In the shot put the Lady Bearcats took second with Shebie Myers throwing 32’ 11.5”, third with Natalei Rhodes 31’ 7.25”, and eighth with Brooklyn Phillips at 27’ 10.5”.

There were also three placements in the discus with Myers fourth at 67’ 11”, Harley Fitzjurls fifth at 62’ 9.5”, and Bryleigh Glover sixth at 60’ 7.5”.

Hurdles

Franklin took first in the 100-meter hurdles at 18.27 and Emily Wooldridge added a sixth at 20.29.

Adisyn Hill made it a hurdles sweep winning the 300 meter event at 56.67. Walker was second at 57.01 and Zoie King took eighth at 1:02.47.

Sprints

More points came in the 100 from Walker sixth at 15.02 and Siddons seventh at 15.04.

The 400-meter dash field also featured Helms fourth at 1:14.11, Siddons sixth at 1:15.68, and Wooldridge seventh at 1:18.14.

Helms ran fourth at 30.57 in the 200-meter dash with Franklin adding an eighth at 31.33

Distance

Placing in the 1600-meter dash were Cora Nichols fifth at 7:06.56, Natalie Blankenship sixth at 7:11.97, and Phoebe Adair seventh at 7:14.20.

Christina O’Neal took third in the 800-meter run at 3:02.35, and Vanessa O’Neal eighth at 3:07.22.

Relays

The 4x800-meter relay squad of Christina O’Neal, Zayla Honey, Vanessa O’Neal and Hill ran second at 12:37.14.

Running the first place 4x100-meter relay (56.10) with Ferguson and Smith were Siddons and Walker.

The 4x400-meter relay grouping of Myers, Makinley Ensey, Hardin, and Walker ran second at 5:14.81 to round out the scoring.
