After just missing out on the high point award in the 3A-4 junior high district track meet last Thursday, Ellie Smith won the award at the senior high 3A-4 meet Monday in Waldron.
She did so by turning in state qualifying performances in all six events in which she was entered and scoring 41 total points.
Qualifying a total of 10 athletes for the Class 3A state meet in Lincoln Tuesday, the Lady Bearcats scored 158 total points to finish as the meet runner-up to Waldron.
Smith dominated the 100- and 200-meter events, winning both individual races and running a leg of both relays of the distance.
She won the 100-meter dash (shown) with a time of 13.24 with Heaven Sanchez adding a fifth place with a 13.83, and Lyddia Franklin an eighth at 14.40.
Smith won the 200 with a time of 28.40 with Cara Miller adding a third in the event at 29.50.
The 4x100- and 4x200-meter teams were Linley Garrett, Smith, Miller, and Sanchez. The four completed the one lap race in 54.79 and the two lap race in 1:58.18.
Smith also scored second place finishes in the high jump and long jump.
She cleared 4’ 8” in the high jump and Franklin added an eighth place at 4’ 2”. Smith had a 16’ 4.5” long jump with Miller taking fifth at 15’ 3.5” and Angie Brown seventh at 14’ 7.5”.
Qualifying in two events was Shelbie Myers, who finished second in the discus at 70’ 11” and she ran a leg of the second place 4x800-meter relay team that finished in 12:31.22.
Joining Myers on the relay team were Adisyn Hill, June Gandarias, and JJ Keatts.
Natalei Rhodes is a second thrower who can go to Lincoln due to her second place shot put at 28’ 8.5”. Myers was third in the shot put at 28’ 7” and Rhodes was sixth in the discus at 60’ 4”.
Franklin ran an 18.38 100-meter hurdles for second place and the Lady Bearcats also got points in the event from Miller in fourth at 19.21 and Emily Wooldridge seventh at 20.66.
Miller was third in the triple jump at 31’ 8.5” and Brown was fifth at 29’ to round out the field event scoring.
The 300-meter hurdles saw Hill run fourth at 56.46.
In the 400-meter dash the Lady Bearcats had Allie Siddons finish fifth at 1:13.80 and Wooldridge eighth at 1:17.25.
The 4x400-meter relay grouping of Myers, Wooldridge, Siddons, and Gandarias was third with a time of 5:10.73.
