Lexi Franklin struck out every hitter in the Charleston lineup Thursday in the District 3A-4 semifinals in Hackett Thursday. She finished with 10 strikeouts, allowed just one hit, and walked two.
The game, a 7-0 win, was moved from tournament host Cedarville to Hackett due to a thunderstorm that moved through Cedarville earlier in the day.
After Franklin struck out two in the first, the Lady Bearcats (21-1) took a 2-0 lead in the bottom half of the inning.
Layla Byrum doubled with one down and stole third. She scored her first of three runs on a single by Leigh Swint. Swint scored when Brook Turner drilled a ball off the first baseman’s glove and into right field.
Byrum (shown rounding third) was hit by a pitch leading off the third and went all the way to third on a sacrifice bunt by Swint.
Franklin singled to score Byrum and after moved to third on a single by Turner. Franklin scored on a ground out by Joleigh Tate to make it 4-0.
In the fourth there were two down after a line drive double play but Roni Tillery and Layla Byrum delivered back-to-back singles before a double by Swint scored both to make it 6-0.
Tate doubled with one out in the fifth and later scored on a passed ball to make it 7-0.
The Lady Bearcats move on to the tournament finals where they will take on Hackett. The tournament shifts back to Cedarville today.
The third place game will begin at 3:30 and the finals as soon as possible after that game ends.
