Dax Goff and Ellie Smith both posted fourth place finishes in the long jump at the Class 3A State Track Meet, held in Lincoln yesterday.

Smith, a freshman, cleared 16’ 4.5” to take fourth in the girls division while Goff covered 20’ 9” to take fourth in the boys division.

Smith was actually tied for third but placed fourth due to second best jumps.

Scoring in the same event was a trend for the Bearcats and Lady Bearcats with, ironically, both Smith and Trace Hall accounting for scoring performances in four events.

Hall ran fifth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.38. Just 0.61 seconds separated second through eighth with the winner running a 10.75.

Smith was sixth in the girls 100-meter dash with a time of 13.58. Again 0.52 seconds separated second through sixth.

Both had to first make the cut through preliminary races earlier in the day.

Both Bearcat and Lady Bearcat 4x100- and 4x200-meter relay teams placed, with the former doing so through a preliminary elimination race.

Hall and Smith were involved in both teams.

For the girls it was Linley Garrett, Smith, Carah Miller, and Sanchez placing fourth in the 4x100 with a time of 54.58. The same quartet ran the 4x200 in 1:55.85 to place sixth.

That gave the Lady Bearcats 15 points in the event, 17th among the 32 teams scoring points in the event.

For the boys in the 4x100 it was Brooks Herrera, Hall, Goff, and Rocky Ross running a 45.79 for seventh place and the 4x200 group of Cody Elliott, Hall, Herrera and Goff placing sixth in 1:35.95.

Hall’s fourth placement came in the 200-meter dash where he placed sixth, after again qualifying through a preliminary, in 23.51.

That gave the Bearcats 17 total points, 13th among the 32 teams scoring points.
