Bearcats Will Be 4 Seed In State Tournament

The Booneville Bearcats will go into the Class 3A state tournament as a four seed after falling to Danville in the Class 3A Region 1 tournament in Greenland Monday.

The Bearcats (16-7) got off to a poor start stranding two runners in the first inning – Rylen Ray had drawn a walk and Dax Goff was hit by a pitch – and Danville sored six first inning runs.

There were two hits and a hit batter before a ground out got the first run, which was followed by another hit batter, a balk, and a walk.

Jace Washburn (shown) took over but after two were down a third hit batter – Bearcat hurlers hit six – a third hit and an error made it 6-0.

The deficit was 11-0 after four innings and, required to score to prolong the game the Bearcats got a two run double by Goff – Herrera and Ray had walked – made it 11-2.

However the Little Johns ended it in five innings with a run in the bottom of the fifth.

The loss means the Bearcats draw defending state champion Harding Academy in the opening round of the tournament that will be hosted by Valley Springs in Harrison. Game time is 10 a.m. on Thursday.
