Booneville eighth grader Devan Ritchie made his presence known in his first cross country meet yesterday.

Ritchie ran a 9:23.8 in the 2500-meter race in the Buck Fever Showcase in Mena Tuesday to place fifth in a field that was 100 runners strong.

Taylor Shaver, another eighth grader on the junior high squad, wasn’t far back, coming in 11th with a time of 9:49.7.

Hunter Pollard was 67th and Aydon Brown and Cooper Lentz also completed the race for the Bearcats.

In the junior girls division, where there were 99 runners, Zayla Honey ran 27th with a time of 12:59.2, and Phebe Adair was 42nd running a 14.21.5.

Natalie Blankenship was again the lone senior high runner for the program, placing 37th in the 5k girls race.

The next race for the cross country Bearcats will be next Tuesday in Lamar.
