The Booneville Bearcat volleyball team will start the second half of conference play on Thursday with a trip to Charleston.

After starting 3A-4 play 0-2 the Bearcats ran off four straight conference match wins but hit the midpoint with a 4-3 mark after a straight set loss at Hackett on Tuesday.

The fourth of the league winning streak came last Thursday in West Fork in a match the Bearcats won 3-1 by scoring the final four points of the fourth set.

After breaking an 8-8 tie West Fork led the remainder of the first set despite kills by Laney Parrish and two by Ellie Smith that had gotten the Bearcats within two.

The second set would be a dominating one for the Bearcats after scoring the first five points and never trailing.

The opening run included a kill and a block by Kylie Lunsford, a kill by Sara Ulmer, and an ace by Farrah Stringer.

The lead would eventually reach double digits in a stretch that included an ace by Camdyn Dove and a back row smash by Lilly Downs for a point.

Emma Mikles and Karmen Kent (shown) also delivered kills before the set ended, with another by Kent wrapping it up and tying the match at 1-1.

The Bearcats started the third set with four straight points on an ace by Kent and a couple of kills from Lunsford, one on a nifty set by Stringer and led throughout.\

West Fork rallied to within four at 18-14 before an ace by Kent and kills by Smith and Lunsford pushed it out to 22-15.

West Fork again cut into the lead and was eventually with 22-21 but a long serve broke serve.

A kill by Smith made it 24-21 but West Fork scored the next two points but apparently looking for an ace to tie instead had a serve out of bounds to close it.

West Fork led most of the fourth set but the Bearcat stayed within striking distance and were able to catch up at 15-15 on back-to-back aces by Lunsford, then went ahead for the first time since it was 2-1 on a kill by Smith.

Another kill by Smith broke a tie at 16 but it would be tied again at 18 and 20 before West Fork took a 22-20 lead and head coach Bailey Stringer took a time out.

The Bearcats broke serve for one point but West Fork would lead 23-21 when another service break cut it back to one.

After it was tied at 23, Kent delivered an ace and a wide return closed it at 25-23.

After starting the second half of conference play on the road at Charleston tomorrow the Bearcats will be home for six of eight games the rest of the way, including four conference games.

They will also play in a tournament in Paris on Oct. 8.
