The Seventh Grade Bearcats had not played a game in three weeks when they took the field on Thursday at Bearcat Stadium.

There wasn’t much rust, if any.

Before they had run their second offensive play the Bearcats (2-1) had already scored twice and were well on their way to a 32-16 win over Hackett.

On their first play after a simulated punt by the Hornets Callen Montalvo rumbled 52 yards for a touchdown and Sadler Miller added a two point conversion to make it 8-0.

The next Hackett possession would see a bad snap and a scramble for the football which wound up knocked backward 23 yards into the end zone where it was recovered by Dalton Schmidt for a touchdown.

Besides the defensive touchdown, the Bearcats had nine tackles for a loss, including two by Hunter Barnes (shown).

A two-point conversion run by Caiden Poore made it 16-0.

Poore ran for a second two point conversion after a 60-yard Hayden Daniel scoring run and it was 24-0 with about seven and a half minutes of the running 20 minute first half clock remaining.

The defense forced another punt and the Bearcats took five plays to score. Miller had a big run of 42 yards but it was Montalvo scoring from the 7.

Daniel added a two point conversion and it was 32-0 at the half.

The Bearcats kept the ball the first five and a half minutes of the second half before punting and Hackett went 75 yards in two plays to get on the scoreboard.

Taking advantage of a Bearcat fumble the Hornets scored a second time with just under seven minutes to go.

The Bearcats will play next on Thursday at West Fork. Game time is 5:30.
