The Booneville Bearcat and Lady Bearcat tennis teams swept the doubles competition at the district tournament Tuesday in Jessieville and have qualified for the state tournament.

The Class 3A state tournament will be held on October 10 and 11 at Conway City Courts. Bergman is the host school.

In the girls division it was Linley Garrett and Lexi Franklin living up to their top seeding in the opening round with a pair of 6-0 sets against an eighth seeded duo from Bismarck.

In the semifinals Garret and Franklin took down the four seed from host Jessieville, again in straight sets, 6-2 and 6-0.

That put the Booneville girls in the finals against the two seed from Atkins and, after a 6-4 first set, Garrett and Franklin wrapped up the day with a 6-1 second set.

The boys team of Juan Buigues and Marcos Mullor were seeded second and, after a 6-0 first set had to survive a 7-5 second set to win against the third seeded team from Bismarck.

In the finals it was another Bismarck team to fall to the Bearcat team. The first set was again more comfortable, 6-1, before the pair pulled out a second 7-5 set win to clinch the title.

The Bearcats also had Noah Harrel and Aiden Carter team up in doubles but they were bounced in their first match.

Lady Bearcats Carah Miller and Angie Brown also took the court in singles play.

Miller won her first match, 8-4, before falling to the eventual singles champion. Brown was knocked off by the eventual tournament runner-up.
