The Booneville Seventh Grade Bearcats made quick work of the Greenland Pirates Thursday in the opener of a doubleheader at Bearcat Stadium.

HD Daniel ran for two touchdowns in the first eight and a half minutes of the contest and the Bearcats were up 16-0 on the way to a 30-8 win to improve to 4-1.

Daniel’s first score, on a run of 7 yards, came after a fumble recovery by Callen Montalvo, who ran for the two-point conversion to make it 8-0.

Braxton Ritchie caused another Pirate fumble that was recovered by Sadler Miller to set up Daniel’s second touchdown, which came on a run of 15 yards.

Montalvo again ran for the conversion and a 16-0 lead.

Montalvo was just getting started. He ran 44 yards for a touchdown on the next Bearcat possession, and when Gage Lunsford (shown) got into the end zone on the try for two it was 24-0.

Montalvo then went 35 yards for a touchdown on the final play of the half to make it 30-0.

His four carries from scrimmage netted Montalvo 105 yards.

Montalvo relieved Daniel at quarterback for the second half and, after Greenland cut into the lead, led a drive to keep the ball the rest of the game.

Laythen Shaffer was key on that drive and he finished with 12 carries for 61 yards on the day.

Shaffer, Braxton Hubbe, and Ritchie were the leading tacklers with Hubble having 1.5 for a loss.

The Bearcats will next face Mansfield on the road Thursday, October 13. Game time is 5:30 p.m.
