The Booneville Seventh Grade Bearcats held the lead over Lavaca at halftime Thursday night, but felt like it could have been more than 8-0.

On the first play of the second half it was more, as Caiden Poore went 70 yards to score to make it 16-0 – Sadler Miller ran for his second two-point conversion of the game – and the Bearcats were on the way to a 24-8 win, their sixth straight.

Poore ran for 149 yards on just five carries.

Miller carried twice on the next Bearcat drive – Laythen Shaffer recovered a Golden Arrow fumble to give the Bearcats (7-1) the ball at the Lavaca 31-yard line – and scored from the 13.

Hayden Daniel (shown) ran for the conversion and it was 24-0 about five minutes into the second half.

Miller carried five more times on the next drive and finished with 78 yards rushing, as the Bearcats kept the ball until the final minute.

Lavaca scored on what would be the final play of the night.

The Bearcats had taken an 8-0 lead on their first possession scoring on an eight play drive that saw Daniel hit Callen Montalvo with a 6-yard touchdown pass and Miller run for the conversion.

With their second possession the Bearcats drove inside the Lavaca 10 but turned the ball over on downs with 26 seconds to play in the half.

The Bearcats will close out the 2022 season with a home game against Cedarville Thursday. Game time is 5:30.
