Even down two starters the Booneville Lady Bearcats had little trouble in Arkoma, Okla., Tuesday night, dominating Union Christian 59-20.
The Lady Bearcats are the top seed in the Battle on the Border tournament Arkoma hosts annually. Union, the four seed, had beaten the hots 46-44 in overtime on Monday.
All eight players to play for the Lady Bearcats logged points with sophomore Angie Brown, who drew a start, getting things started 33 seconds into the game.
By the end of the first quarter the Lady Bearcats had built a 16-3 lead as Linley Garrett has scored six points. She was on her way to scoring 13 in the game.
Garrett was also one of the leading rebounders for the Lady Bearcats, pulling down six to match Karmen Kent. Lexi Franklin grabbed five.
Garrett had scored 11 by halftime and Leigh Swint had added 12 and it was 38-12.
Swint would lead all players with 16 while handing out three assists, as did Franklin. Four other players had two in Kent, JJ keatts, Roni Tillery, and Ciara Smith.
The lead grew to 33 by the end of the third quarter as Tillery (shown) scored seven of her 12 in the quarter and, though the shot clock employed in Arkansas was not present, the 30-point sportsmanship rule was, starting a running clock, which would be momentarily interrupted in the final minute by a runaway toddler.
The win moves the Lady Bearcats into the finals against Mulberry on Friday night at 7 p.m.
