The Booneville Lady Bearcats won their 20th straight conference game Tuesday night in convincing fashion over Two Rivers.
Seniors on the current roster have been involved in the entire streak as it was the 2020-2021- team winning their last three league games and the 2021-2022 squad that went 14-0 in conference play. The current Lady Bearcats are 3-0 in the 3A-1.
Statistically the score Tuesday night was 55-29 but the official final was 54-29.
The issue came in the first quarter when the Lady Bearcats put up 20 points but were credited with 19 but that wasn’t the biggest issue for the Lady Bearcats in the quarter.
After scoring the first eight points of the game and eventually leading 17-4 after a pair of Lexi Franklin free throws, Franklin would later leave the game with an injury.
Franklin, who scored 23 last Friday, had already scored eight points to that point.
Two Rivers was within, 19-9 at the end of the quarter.
Franklin was replaced, largely, by Linley Garrett who scored six second quarter points which would be her entire output for the night.
However, Garrett was dominating the boards, pulling down a game high 12 rebounds.
Scoreless in the opening quarter Karmen Kent got quietly involved with four points in the second quarter – she also swatted away a couple of shots – and the Lady Bearcats were in command at the half, up 36-15.
Kent started the second half scoring for the Lady Bearcats with a 3 and she would go on to score a game-high 13 points while pulling down eight rebounds.
Kent scored again in the final minute of the third quarter and scored twice early in the fourth, and it was her basket with 5:59 to go that enacted the sportsmanship rule with a 52-22 lead.
Ciarra Smith accounted for the remaining basket.
After scoring the first four points of the game Leigh Swint would finish with 11 points and she had six rebounds. Carah Miller also hit double figures with 10. Both also had three steals.\
The Lady Bearcats will face Danville at Bearcat Gym Friday. Printed schedules have that game as a road game but are in error. Tipoff is at 6 p.m. The February 7 game will be at Ted Lyons Gymnasium in Danville.
