The Booneville Lady Bearcats ended both halves on an 18-0 run, shut out Cedarville in two quarters, and throttled the Lady Pirates 44-13 to win their 10th overall and remain unbeaten in Conference 3A-4 play.
After back-to-back Karmen Kent baskets a Lady Pirate bucket made it 8-7, but Kent scored for the third time in the quarter just 15 seconds later and it was still 10-7 when the quarter ended.
With possession to start the second quarter Kent, who ironically would not score again, found Carah Miller (shown) inside for a basket.
Lexi Franklin handed out assists on baskets by Linley Garrett and Miller and it was 16-7 with 4:32 to play in the half.
Then Franklin, running the offense with Leigh Swint out for the night, took it over.
The junior scored the next 10 points of the game. She did so largely in transition as she had five steals in the quarter, and the teams took a break with the Lady Bearcats leading 26-7.
Franklin too would not score again, finishing with a game-high 12 points.
Out of the break Cedarville scored the first six points. It took the Lady Pirates 4:23 to do so, but it was 26-13.
Miller, who finished with 10, got the Lady Bearcats on the board for the first time in the second half, and Cedarville would not score again.
Garrett, who also finished with 10, Angie Brown, and Layla Byrum, all scored before the quarter ended and it was 34-13.
Though she scored just four points, Byrum had four steals on the night.
The Lady Bearcats flirted with the sportsmanship rule the entire fourth quarter, finally reaching the threshold in the final minute.
The Lady Bearcats are back in action today at Hackett in a game moved from Tuesday night to beat a forecasted winter storm. It is Hackett's homecoming game so the boys will play first.
