Lady Bearcats Clinch Share Of District Title

Linley Garrett hit a 3 with 5:34 left in the first half and the Booneville Lady Bearcats led 24-10. When she scored from well inside the arc with 1:30 to go in the third quarter and it was 46-10.

Those five points were it for Garrett to that point. She went on to score seven more and led the Lady Bearcats with 12 on the night in a 54-19 pounding of Danville.

The win completed a stretch of four games in five nights and moved the Lady Bearcats to 17-4 overall and 13-0 in Conference 3A-4 play. The Lady Bearcats have won 15 straight since a 2-4 start and have clinched a share of the 3A-4 title.

To win it outright they will have to beat Cossatot River at Cossatot on Friday. The Lady Eagles are 11-1 with games left against the Lady Bearcats on Friday and Charleston on Saturday.

After a 14-0 run to start the game Tuesday the lady Bearcats were in total control. Leigh Swint, Lexi Franklin, Layla Byrum, and Carah Miller all figured into the scoring in the opening run.

Danville actually outscored the Lady Bearcats 10-7 over the final 3:08 of the first quarter and first 2:26 of the second quarter to get within 11 at 21-10 before Garrett’s 3 made it a 14-point lead again.

Karmen Kent and Miller took it from there, scoring a combined 11 points it was 35-10 at the half. Miller had nine at halftime and finished with 11 points and seven rebounds.

Midway through the third quarter the Lady Bearcat regulars called it a night – a Franklin (shown) basket had gotten her into double figures with 10 and made it 39-10.

A 3 by Roni Tillery pushed the lead past the 30-point mark and would be 48-15 through three quarters.
