SWINT HS THREE HITS, TWO RBI IN OPENER

Leigh Swint made a smooth transition from the basketball court to the softball field, going 3-for-3 with two runs batted in in a 4-1 win over a Greenwood JV team Monday.

Swint’s first at bat came with Roni Tillery at second after Tillery had walked and moved up on a ground ball. Swint promptly doubled to tie the game at 1-1 – the Lady Bulldogs had taken a 1-0 lead on a run scoring double in the top of the first.

Lexi Franklin, who allowed six hits and struck out eight, twice pitched out of jams – in the second after allowing two hits and in the third after an error and a double – before Swint made her way back to the plate.

In the bottom of the third Swint came up with the bases loaded. Layla Bryum loaded the bases for the Lady Bearcats, who did so without the ball getting out of the infield – Tillery had bunted her way aboard and Lyddia Franklin reached after the Lady Bulldog third baseman smothered a ball.

Swint singled at that point to make it 2-1, Lexi Franklin drew a walk to force in a run, and a sacrifice fly off the bat of Ellie Smith made it 4-1.

Swint and Smith both singled in the fifth and Cameron Parrish reached on a passed ball strike out but the Lady Bearcats could not add to their lead.

The Lady Bearcats are set to open Conference 3A-4 play today in Cedarville.
