The Bearcats led Cossatot River 8-0 after two innings but saw the first two hitters retired in the third. They then scored eight times before the side was retired and went on to a 16-2 win over the Eagles.
Junior Matt O’Bar highlighted the inning with his first home run of the season which came with a man aboard and made it 16-0.
The win moves the Bearcats to 8-4 on the season and 5-0 in Conference 3A-4 play.
The eight run frame started with an infield single by Brooks Herrera (2-for-5) and Rhett Nietert was hit by a pitch for a second time to bring up Dax Goff.
Goff (3-for-3) had already driven in two. He doubled his RBI total for the day with a soft double into right and it was 10-0. Peyton Tatum (2-for-2) drove in his third of the day to make it 11-0.
Dunn Daniel singled and an error allowed Jace Washburn to reach and two to score for a 13-0 lead.
Rylen Ray, making his first start since being released from a football season injury, drew a walk and was lifted for Conner Lentz.
As it turned out it was an easy trip home for Lentz as, after Washburn scored on a passed ball, O’Bar’s two run home run made it 16-0.
It was still 16-0 going to the bottom of the fifth when Goff relieved Tatum. A walk and an error preceded a single and a passed ball that allowed the Eagles to score a pair of unearned runs.
The Bearcats had built their 8-0 lead through two innings with five in the first and three in the second.
In the first it was a run scoring single by Goff, an RBI groundout by Dunn Daniel – after Tatum reached on catcher’s interference (shown) – a run scoring single by Washburn, a steal of home by Tatum on a double steal, and a run scoring single by Ray in his first at bat of the season.
Two were aboard for Goff in the second when he doubled off the top of the fence to score one and Tatum followed with a two run single to make it 8-0.
Tatum (3-2) threw the first four innings to become the first three game winner for the Bearcats. He allowed just two hits with four walks and eight strikeouts.
The Bearcats are next scheduled to face Charleston in Charleston at 4:30 on Thursday.
