David Hicks hit a pair of home runs and drove in six while Dax Goff hit his seventh home run as well in a 15-5, six inning win at Waldron Monday.
All of the home runs came in the fifth and sixth innings when the Bearcats (10-4) scored 11 times to pull away in what was a tight game through four innings.
It was 4-3 when Goff led off the fifth with a solo shot for what was just the third hit of the day for the Bearcats to that point.
Peyton Tatum, the only Bearcat with two hits, followed Goff with a single and reached second on a sacrifice bunt by Dunn Daniel.
Jace Washburn drew a walk and stole second with Ry Ray at the plate. Ray would reach on an error that scored two runs to make it 7-3.
A Matt O’Bar single preceded a three run home run by Hicks, his third of the year, and it was 10-3.
A two-run double got the Bulldogs within 10-5 in the bottom of the fourth and brought on Dylan Todd (shown) for his second appearance of the season.
Todd got a fly ball and also pitched an odd sixth in which a strikeout victim reached second, moved to third on a ground out to third and was then erased at the plate on a 5-2-6-2-5 double play with Goff making a diving tag of the batter who was trying to reach third on what started as a fielder’s choice.
Before that Goff led off the Bearcat sixth with a walk and Tatum doubled him home to make it 11-5. After Daniel reached on an error Tatum scored on a passed ball while Washburn was at the plate and the sophomore singled home Daniel to make it 13-5.
The second double play of the game by Waldron cleared the bases but O’Bar was hit by a pitch for the second time to bring up Hicks again and he went deep to left for a two run home run and a 15-5 lead.
The Bearcats had led 2-0 on a run scoring single by Brooks Herrera, who scored on a steal of third on a wild pitch.
After Waldron tied it against Goff (2-0) the Bearcats used three hit batters and walk for one run with O'Bar getting the RBI and a ground out by Hicks for another to make it 4-2.
Waldron got an unearned run in the fourth to cut it to 4-3.
The Bearcats are at home today for just the fifth time this season, taking on Lavaca.
