The Booneville School District Faculty scored six runs in the first two innings and cruised to a 15-6 win over the Class of 2023 in the annual Senior-Faculty softball game Wednesday afternoon at Bearcat Stadium.
The Faculty win, which continues a decades long streak of dominance, featured a little bit of everything including hit batters and walks, double plays and baserunning blunders, and even fantastic plays and errors on routine plays. Not to mention plenty of trash talking.
There were 21 total runs, 21 hits, but 12 errors.
The seniors got a double from Brooks Herrera in the first by had Cam Osborne get run down for the final out of the inning and baseball head coach Arron Kimes delivered a two-run double for the games first runs.
Kimes would score on a ground out RBI by Kaytlann Barnes.
After Leigh Swint hit into an inning ending 4-6-3 double play to close the second – the runner was aboard on one of six Faculty errors – the Faculty doubled its lead to 6-0.
With the bases loaded on walks, John Weaver reached on one of six Senior errors in
which two scored and Bailey Stringer grounded out for another run and a 6-0 lead.
The seniors had a chance to get back in it in the third.
Chase Plymale, who had pulled himself from the mound in the bottom of the second, reached on an error and Brooklyn Keeter and David Hicks both had soft infield singles to fill the bases.
Megan Reid (shown) followed with a run scoring single but the seniors had two runners out at home and third and Johnny Barnes grounded out to end the inning.
Karmen Kent issued four straight walks – females walk when a male walks – with Beth Miesner getting an RBI to make it 7-1 in the third.
The seniors got a run back in the top of the fifth when Skyler Shelton reached on a three-base error and scored on a ground ball by Sara Ulmer.
However, the inning ended when coach Jacob Hattabaugh flashed the leather to rob Cody Elliott of a hit.
The Faculty used an error and singles by Doc Crowley, Hattabaugh and Ginger Loyd to score a run in the bottom of the fifth to make it 8-2.
The Faculty put it away with six in the sixth. It started with four walks, these by Dunn Daniel and with the later to Rachel May for an RBI.
Weaver drove in two with a double, and a single by coach Jacob Fennell got a fourth run. A double by Kaytlann Barnes got a fifth and when coach Cody Harrel reached on an error a sixth run scored – someone miscounted the five run limit – and it was 14-2.
Daniel hung an elbow in attempt to get a base by being hit in the seventh but it was a true HBP of Lizzy Gray that would lead to a run on Herrera’s second double and it was 14-3 midway through the eighth.
Plymale then came back to the mound and put on a show, both vocally and athletically in the seventh. He recorded one out by running down Emily Crowley and making a bare hand grab and throw out of Haley Robertson.
A Johnny Barnes triple plated a run for the seniors in a three run inning that also included a single by Madison Crosby that made it 14-6.
Softball coach Cody Simpson singled home a run in the bottom of the 10th to make it 15-6.
