The Bearcat golf team opened their 2023 season yesterday with a second place team finish in Waldron, then hit the links at Galla Creek in Pottsville for a 9 a.m. tee today.
At Waldron Country Club the Bearcats compiled a team score – the lowest three three scores by team members – of 123, five strokes off the pace set by Mena and five strokes ahead of third place Charleston.
Bryce Eaves led the Bearcat contingent in Waldron with a round of 40, good enough for fifth overall - there were three rounds of 39 and a blistering 35.
Completing the Bearcat scoring was Rylen Ray with a 40 and Jace Washburn with a 41.
There were eight Bearcats on the course with Dax Goff, Noah Harrel, and Colt Cobb shooting 44, 45, and 46, respectively. Also competing were Tayden Washburn and Parker Smith.
In Pottsville today the Bearcats were third to the host and Charleston, shooting a 131.
Jace Washburn’s 43 was the top Bearcat round of the day. Harrel and Cobb both shot a 44.
Also playing in Pottsville was Ray with a 45, Eaves with a 48, as well as Tayden Washburn and Smith.
The Lady Bearcats did not participate in either tournament and will start play at home on Monday, according to head coach Jake Fennell.
