Delayed a week cue to heat, the Bearcat and Lady Bearcat tennis teams hit the courts for the first time yesterday and, sweeps by the girls, took 14 of 19 best-of-three matches from Mulberry opponents.
Liinley Garrett and Lexi Franklin swept two matches, as did Harley Fitzjurls and Emma Ferguson. The later duo also had to go to the decisive third set to win a second match.
Fitzjurls also teamed up with Raelynn Franklin in a three set match win and Mary Haynes and Raelynn Franklin also took a three set match.
The girls completed a sweep of the day with three straight set wins. Angie Brown was responsible for two of the wins and Haynes recorded the other sweep.
The boys division was more competitive with the Bearcats and Yellow Jackets splitting six doubles matches and four singles matches.
Noah Harrel split his two singles matches, both of which were straight sets. Taylor Shaver won a three set match giving the Bearcat contingent completed the three set match sweep with a 2-1 win in his match.
Though he lost a singles match Daxton Bowman paired with Shaver to sweep a doubles match.
Also sweeping doubles matches were Wesley Fonseca and Aiden Carter as well as Harrell and Fonseca.
Fonseca also teamed with Carter in a second match and Whitaker Kendall and Gabriel Draper also took the court for matches.
