Freshman Taylor Shaver has shined for the Bearcat cross country teams this year, placing third in his first event, a 2400-meter run in Acorn, then fourth in a 1.55 mile run in Danville on Tuesday.

Shaver (shown) cleared the Acorn course in 9:41.2 and the 1.55 miles event in 10.00.1

Nathan Hicks, the lone senior high Bearcat runner until freshmen are permitted to move up after they run in the junior high district tournament has also run both events.

Hicks posted a time of 25:34.4 in Acorn then trimmed that by well over a minute with a time of 24:12 in Danville.

The Bearcat junior boys make up the most of the contingent of runners with nine runners in Danville after having eight at Acorn.

Completing the fourth place team score in Danville were Ayden Rhinehart, Jacob Burcham, Jaydon Walker and Leo Vasquez, with Aayden Hill.

In Acorn it was Rhinehart, Walker, Vasquez, and Hill completing the team score and Burcham being the tiebreaker score that earned a ninth place team finish in the crowded meet.

Also competing in Acorn were Cooper Lentz and Hunter Pollard, and in Danville seventh grader Jude Baker joined the team.

Lentz also ran in a pair of events last weekend, including a National Guard meet for junior and senior high runners in Little Rock.

The next meet is scheduled for next Tuesday in Lamar.
