The Booneville Seventh Grade Bearcats had not played in three weeks when they took the field yesterday evening in Hackett.
There was no signs of rust due to the inactivity as they opened the game with a 70-yard touchdown pass from Drake Brackney to Cooper Smithson and were on their way to a 32-16 swatting of the Hornets.
The Bearcats (1-1) led 32-0 at halftime.
Brackney, who ran for a two point conversion after the touchdown pass, would throw for 98 first half yards on three completions and would run for 77 yards and two touchdowns.
But first it was Smithson scoring his second touchdown on a run of 35 yards to cap a two play drive – Edwin Garcia (shown) had gotten the first 21 yards.
Brackney connected with Trevor Swain for the two point conversion and it was 16-0.
Chase Posey recorded his first of three sacks on the next Hornet possession, which led to Hackett being held to minus 24 yards in the first half.
The next Bearcat possession ended on a 28-yard run by Brackney after he had connected with Garcia and Parker Sing. Deven Wilks ran for the conversion and a 24-0 lead.
Posey had two sacks on the next Hornet possession to get the ball back for the Bearcats and Brackney went 49 yards for a touchdown on the final play of the half and with Garcia running for two it was 32-0.
Wyatt Danekas led the Bearcat defense with four solo tackles and one assist.
The junior high game was delayed then cancelled due to weather. A makeup date has not been determined.
