Head coach Jake Fennell found plenty to be happy about with the Lady Bearcat golf team in the Class 3A state tournament hosted by Melbourne yesterday.
“We are just inexperienced,” Fennell said. “All four of them are in their first season ever of playing golf, and anyone who has played understands how difficult it is at the beginning. They did show a lot of improvement throughout the year and with them being so young, three of them will be back for two years.”
That trio is Anna Ferguson, Riley Broussard, and Alisa Rogers.
Kylie Lunsford (shown), the lone Lady Bearcat of the quartet who made the trip for yesterday’s state tournament but will not return, improved her district score by five strokes, Fennell noted, and added, Ferguson was 10 strokes better than her score from last week’s district event.
Two Bearcat golfers, Rylen Ray and Jace Washburn, qualified to compete in state tournament as well. The boys tournament is set for Glenwood Country Club on October 2.
