DOUBLES TEAM REACHES STATE QUARTERFINALS

The Lady Bearcat doubles team of Linley Garrett and Lexi Franklin reached the quarterfinal round of the Class 3A state tournament Monday.

After securing a hard fought 7-5, 6-4 opening round win over a duo from Tuckerman.
Garrett and Franklin took care of their Corning opponents in the quarterfinals 6-1 in the opening set, but the Corning pair rallied to tie the match by winning the second set.

The Lady Bearcats dropped a tiebreaker in the decisive third set to see their season end.

Garrett and Franklin were one of the two Lady Bearcat doubles teams in the 15-team bracket. Emma Ferguson and Harley Fitzjurls drew a pair from Central Arkansas Christian and were ousted in the first round.

Noah Harrel and Angie Brown had also qualified for the event. Harrel dropped his first round match to an opponent from Baptist Prep and Brown dropped hers to an Elkins player.
