After Monday’s straight set win over Atkins Bearcat volleyball coach Bailey Stringer told her team they could still play better. She also told them they needed to the rest of the week.

The reason for that, as was echoed by junior Ellie Smith in a postgame interview, was because the rest of the week included conference games against Charleston and Elkins.

A couple of wins to close the season would get the Bearcats the third seed in next week’s district tournament in Elkins.

The Charleston match the following night also gave the Bearcats a chance at a sweep of the Tigers since they had swept Charleston in Booneville on September 14.

Though they would not repeat the sweep on Tuesday – Charleston took the first set – the Bearcats would take the next three sets.

After evening the match at a set apiece the Bearcats and Tigers went back and forth in the third set until a 20-18 lead became one of 24-21 and ultimately a set win.

The third set was also tight at 17-16 before the Bearcats took the set and match.

On Thursday, which was senior night there was considerable less drama as the Bearcats won 25-13, 25-6, and 25-16 to avenge a five set loss in Elkins on September 19.

The junior high Bearcats also swept Elkins to start the night,25-23 and 25-11, to finish as the four seed in the district tournament set for tomorrow in West Fork.
