The Booneville Seventh Grade Bearcats won their sixth straight game Thursday, 24-8 over Charleston at Bearcat Stadium in their final home game of the season.
The Bearcats (6-1, 5-0 Conference 3A-1) scored the first two times they snapped the football and were in complete control throughout.
The first score came on a 57-yard run by Cooper Smithson set up by the defense getting a negative yardage stop by Kyler Carter and a sack from Smithson to help force a punt.
Charleston then fumbled one play after the simulated kickoff and Trevor Swain recovered at the Tiger 25.
Drake Brackney hit Edwin Garcia (shown) – the two had combined on a two point conversion after the Smithson touchdown – for 25 yards and a touchdown the next play. Brackney added the conversion run for a 16-0 lead.
Charleston would finish the first half with negative offense but the score would be unchanged due to a Bearcat turnover on downs.
Because the Tigers opened the game with the ball the Bearcats started the second half with it and needed just two plays to score. Garcia got eight yards and Brackney went 62 for the touchdown.
Garcia added another conversion for a 24-0 lead less than two minutes into the half.
Charleston scored two possessions later, taking advantage of a Bearcat fumble to cut it to 24-8.
The Bearcat defense made sure there would not be further damage as Anthony Gil recorded the third sack of the night.
The Bearcats will next play at Lavaca on Thursday. The game starts at 5:30.
