Going into the season finale at Cedarville last night Brody Chambers needed 4 yards to reach the 1,000-yard mark. He scored four first half touchdowns and the Bearcats led 32-8 on the way to a 32-16 win.
Chambers finished with 11 carries for 114 yards giving him 1110 on the season.
The win – the third in eight days, all on the road – wrapped up an unbeaten Conference 3A-1 season for the Bearcats.
Chambers got the yardage he needed on his first carry, going 23 yards for a touchdown. He then ran for a two-point conversion to make it 8-0.
The Bearcats (8-2) had the ball at the Pirate 23-yard line because Callen Montalvo blocked a punt and Dalton Schmidt recovered it for the Bearcats.
The Bearcats forced another Pirate punt, this one successful, and were on the way to doing more damage when the quarter ended.
Two plays into the second quarter Chambers scored from the 3 and Hayden Daniel ran for a two-point conversion and a 16-0 lead.
When Braxton Hubble recovered a fumble the Bearcats started another possession on the Pirate side of the field.
Hubble and Devon Ritchie both had three solo stops in the game and Schmidt was involved in five total tackles for the Bearcats.
After the Pirate turnover Tayden Washburn connected with Caiden Poore for 21 yards then ran for 7 more and Chambers got the last 10 and again added a two-point conversion run to make it 24-0 with 5:07 left in the first half.
A miscue on a punt turned into a 73-yard scoring run for Cedarville and the Pirates were within 24-8 with 2:52 to go in the half.
That would be more than enough for the Bearcats to answer as Chambers went 39 yards for his fourth touchdown and with Washburn’s two-point conversion run it was 32-8 at the half.
The Bearcats would start the second half with a punt by Daniel that traveled 44 yards and their next possession would end in a fumble.
Following the turnover Cedarville drove to a score and conversion run with 1:33 to play to set the final at 32-16.
