Lady Bearcat Relay Team Claims 3A Indoor Title, Team Takes Fourth In Meet

With the its 4x800-meter squad claiming a state championship, the Booneville Lady Bearcats finished fourth in the Class 3A state indoor track meet Saturday in Fayetteville.

The relay team consists of sophomore triplets Vanessa, Tiffany, and Christina O’Neal, along with freshman Abbi Schlupe.

Vanessa and Christina Christina let her sibling hear all about it, she said not really, “because she beats me almost every time.”

Those two events accounted for 24 of the Lady Bearcats points at the meet, which was held at the Randal Tyson Track Center on the campus of the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville.

Lyddia Franklin was also a third place finisher, picking up a bronze medal in the 60-meter hurdles.

Brooklyn Phillips, another freshman, tied for third in the shot put.

Ellie Smith accounted for the remaining Lady Bearcat points with a fourth place finish in the long jump and a sixth place finish in the 60-meter dash.

In the boys division Dax Goff had the top placement for a Bearcat, taking third in the shot put.

Wesley Fonseca took fifth in the high jump, Conner Lentz ran sixth in the 60-meter hurdles, and the 4x800-meter relay team of Clayton Green, Sean Pennington, Parker Smith, and Taylor Shaver took seventh.

The outdoor track season will get underway the week of March 4-7 with seventh graders running on March 4, junior high on March 5, and senior high on March 7, all at Ozark.
