The Booneville Lady Bearcat traded T-shirts for hoodies Thursday and beat the elements and the Pottsville Lady Apaches 5-4 at the Billy Kiersey Baseball/Softball Complex.
In the bottom of the sixth the Lady Bearcats (2-1) broke a 4-4 tie with a Lexi Franklin triple – her second of the game – and and RBI by Kylie Lunsford.
Pottsville had twice led in the game, including breaking a 2-2 tie when two runs scored on an error in the top of the fifth.
The Lady Bearcats tied it at 4-4 in the bottom of the inning. Franklin singled to open the frame and was at third when Peighton Montalvo (shown against Northside Tuesday) grounded out to get her across.
Haylee Taylor drew a walk and when Presley Walker also had an infield single Ellie Smith drew a bases loaded walk to make it 4-4.
After the starting time was delayed due to sleet, a first inning sacrifice fly had staked Pottsville to a 1-0 first inning lead but the Lady Bearcats responded in their first at bat.
Cameron Parish singled with one down and after Roni Tillery walked, Franklin’s first triple of the day made it 2-1.
Pitching around a double, Franklin struck out the side in the Pottsville second – she had 14 on the day – but Pottsville was able to draw even at 2-2 on a two out double in the third inning.
The Lady Bearcats will close the first week of the season today by hosting Dover. First pitch is at 4:30.
