The Booneville Bearcats closed out a difficult first week with a loss at Greenwood Friday.

The game with the Bulldogs was added to the schedule after one scheduled on Thursday with Lamar had been cancelled.

The Bearcats fell behind 2-0 after one inning, with one of the runs being unearned before Rhett Nietert got out of the inning with a couple of fly balls.

Greenwood increased its lead to 5-0 in the second inning but Nietert (0-2) got through the third without further damage.

The top of the third inning saw Jeremiah Shaw log his first hit of the season and Noah Harrel make his baseball debut as a pinch runner.

Like Harrel, Dax Goff also made his baseball debut starting in centerfield and eventually getting out of a jam in the fourth inning.

The Bearcats are back in action today at Clarksville and are set to play at home for the first time on Tuesday against Prairie Grove.
