Other than the final score there were plenty of things to like about the Bearcats game in Clarksville Monday afternoon.
The Bearcats pounded out 14 hits and scored 11 times after an opening week struggle at the plate.
Rhett Nietert and Dylan Todd were both 3-for-5 at the top of the order with Todd delivering two doubles, the first extra base hits of the season.
Dax Goff, in just his second game since coming from basketball, was 2-for-4 with a walk and three RBIs and Raylen Ray was also 3-for-5 in the cleanup spot with three RBI.
The Bearcats also drew first blood with two first inning runs but fell behind in the bottom of the inning as Clarksville scored three times without a hit – there were two walks, a hit batter, and two errors – meaning Goff threw 37 pitches in the inning.
Goff would throw just two innings in his first start and got all six outs on strikes.
However, down a run the Bearcats put together a three run third that included an RBI from Ray and two scoring on passed balls.
After Clarksville tied it against Todd (0-1) the Bearcats got an RBI from Goff and two from Ray, then one from Conner Lentz on a ground ball to lead 9-5.
When Goff (shown scoring a run) and Ray drove in runs in the fifth it was 11-7.
Clarksville used a hit batter, a walk, two of their five hits in the game, and an error to tie the game in the bottom of the sixth and it would be a ground out that drove in the eventual game winner to make it 12-11.
The Bearcats will face Prairie Grove at home tonight and have scheduled a game with Mansfield on Thursday at home to replace Friday’s game with Greenwood, which the Bulldogs cancelled.
