Managing just three hits, the Booneville Lady Bearcats suffered a 7-0 loss in Hackett yesterday.

The game started promising enough with Ellie Smith lining a single down the left field line. Smith (shown in an earlier game) would also beat out an infield single in the sixth.

There were two down on her sixth inning single and Cameron Parish followed with a walk to give the Lady Bearcats a runner in scoring position for the first time.

Lexi Franklin accounted for the only other hit of the day and also reached via an error in the seventh. Franklin also reached second with one down but was stranded there to end the game.

By then Hackett was up big. After the Lady Bearcats were unable to move Smith in the first the Lady Hornets took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the inning on a leadoff home run.

It would be 3-0 when the opening inning ended and it was 5-0 through two innings. Some sloppy play helped the lead grow by single runs in the fifth and sixth.

Franklin went the distance for the Lady Bearcats, setting down 11 on strikes.

The Lady Bearcats will return to action Thursday when they host Charleston and will also make up Monday’s rainout with Lamar in a varsity only meeting on Friday at the Kiersey Complex.
