Ritchie, Jr. Bearcats Run Away From Rest Of 3A-4 To Win District Meet

The Booneville Junior High Bearcats ran away from the rest of the league at the district track meet held at Bearcat Stadium Tuesday night.

With Devon Ritchie winning both the high jump and the triple jump, the Bearcats won eight of the events on the night.

Ritchie cleared 5’ 10” to win the high jump and 37’ 1.75” to take the triple jump.

Hayden Daniel won the 200-meter run with a time of 25.15.

Three relay teams also won their events. The 4x200-meter relay grouping of Dakota Fonseca, Callen Montalvo, Braxton Hubble and Caiden Poore ran a 1:47.28.

Running a 4:16.69, the 4x400-team of Fonseca, Avery Reno, Caiden Poore, and Cooper Lentz put the exclamation point on the night in the final event.

The 4x800-meter team of Taylor Shaver, Sean Pennington, Edwin Garcia, and Cooper Lentz flirted with a ten minute finish, missing by just 0.85 seconds at 10:00.85 but won by almost 41 seconds.

Pennington also won the 1600-meter run with a time of 5:24.16.

Elijah Draper was also the top performer in the shot put with a toss of an even 41 feet, winning by over three feet.

Also scoring in the sprint events were Daniel second in the 100-meters at 11.98 – missing by the narrowest of margins, .01. Poore and Cooper Smithson also finished in a dead tie for fifth in the 100 at 12.28.

The 200-meter dash saw Smithson finish third at 25.78 and Ritchie fifth at 25.89 and in the 400-meter dash it was Ritchie second at 58.51, Lentz third at 1:00.36, Fonseca fourth at 1:01.57, and Smithson sixth at 1:02.62.

The 4x100-meter relay grouping of Montalvo, Poore, Hubble, and Daniel was also less than a second off the pace for second at 50.81.

The hurdle events saw Kass DuPree run third at 19.59, Ayden Rhinehart sixth at 20.30, Daniel seventh at 20.59, and Dalton Schmidt eighth at 20.89 in the 110-meter event while it was Schmidt second at 49.50, Dupree third at 50.70, Rhinehart fourth at 52.53, and Montalvo seventh at 55.50 in the 300-meter event.

In the distance events it was Pennington taking third in the 800-meter run at 2:23.09 followed by Shaver at 2:33.03 in fourth and Garcia at 2:38.44 for seventh. The 1600-meter run saw Shaver run second at 5:29.89, Fonseca fifth at 5:52.70, and Rhinehart sixth at 5:53.04.

Also scoring in the jumps were Fonseca second in the high jump at 5’ 4”, Smithson third at 5’ 2.5”, and Montalvo eighth at 4’ 10”.

Ritchie was second in the long jump at 18’ 7.75’ and Smithson took sixth at 17’ 2” with Daniel at seventh clearing 16’ 10.5”.

Completing a near sweep in the triple jump it was Montalvo second at 36’ 6”, Smithson fourth at 35’ 6.5" and Daniel fifth at 32’ 3.25”.

In the pole vault Rylie Sint took third at 8’ with Poore fourth, also at 8’, Rhinehart sixth at 7’ 6”, and Schmidt eighth at 7’.

The throwing events saw Tate Fowler fishing third in the discus at 114’ 3” and Maddox Crosby sixth at 101’ 9”.

In the shot put it was Hunter Barnes third at 37’ 1”, Fowler fourth at 36’ 9”, and Laythen Shaffer fifth at 35’ 3.5”.
