Shelton Scores 37 Points, Bearcats Score 302 Easily Win District Meet

The Booneville Bearcats scored 302 total points to easily run away with the district track title Thursday in Waldron.

The Bearcats won 10 of the events and were second, often to a teammate, 11 times. The top two finishers in district meet events are qualified for the Class 3A state track meet.

Hunter Warren won both the 100- and 200-meter dash events with times of 11.18 and 23.48.

High point award winner Chase Shelton was second in the 200 at 24.81. Shelton amassed 37 total points.

Shelton won the triple jump clearing 38’ 2”, was second in the long jump at 20’ 3.25”, and he was third in the 400-meter dash at 24.81.

Shelton also ran a leg of the first place 4x100-meter relay (44.71) (shown) with Warren, Dax Goff, and Dakota Mattson. He also ran a 4x400-meter relay (3:55.64) leg with Goff, Devon Ritchie, and Mattson.

The 4x800-meter relay team of Sean Pennington, Wesley Fonseca, Taylor Shaver, and Parker Smith won in convincing fashion with at time of 9:37.88.

The Bearcats won four field events with Ritchie winning the high jump at 5’ 8” and Trevor Karow taking the pole vault at 10’ 6”.

Throwers Damari Poole won the discus at 128’ 6” and Goff launched the shot 43’ 7” for an event win.
