The Booneville Lady Bearcats celebrated senior day with a 6-0 win over Lavaca Friday at the Billy Kiersey Complex.

Lexi Franklin, one of the two seniors on the roster, walked only one and struck out 14 in the shutout performance – her third straight. She also had two hits and scored two runs.

The Lady Bearcats (20-7) have thrown eight shutouts in April.

Ironically it was Kylie Lunsford, the other senior, with the RBIs on both of Franklin’s runs scored.

With the Lady Bearcats unable to take advantage of a Peighton Montalvo double in the second it was scoreless through two and a half innings.

In the bottom of the third the Lady Bearcats led 1-0 on an infield RBI single by Cam Parish, Lunsford lifted a sacrifice fly to score Franklin to make it 2-0.

Two singles and an error started the Lady Bearcat fifth with Franklin’s single scoring Ellie Smith, who had singled and moved to second on a Lady Golden Arrow error.

After Parish reached on an error Franklin (shown) outran a throw home on a ground ball by Lunsford and it was 4-0.

With two down in the inning Haylee Taylor singled to right to score two runs to make it 6-0.

Franklin retired five of the final outs she will record on her home field on strikes, giving her 14 in the game and 957 for the career.

The Lady Bearcats are back in action today with a trip to Class 5A Greenwood – first pitch at 5 p.m. – before playing Wednesday in the Class 3A-4 district tournament at 6 p.m. Wednesday in Danville.
