Knowing his team would not play until the semifinals of the district tournament, Booneville Bearcat head coach Chad Simpson lined up a game with Class 5A for Monday.
The Lady Bearcats (20-8) struggled at the plate, recording only one hit, it by Cam Parish (shown in a previous game), and drawing one walk, it by Roni Tillery, in a 6-0 loss.
After Parish broke up the combined no-hitter bid with one out in the seventh she moved to third on a Lady Bulldog error, but she was thrown out trying to score after tagging up for the final out of the game.
Through four innings it was only a 2-0 Greenwood lead over Lexi Franklin, who added seven strikeouts to her career total that now stands at 964.
But the Lady Bulldogs doubled the lead with a two run double in the fifth and stretched the advantage to 6-0 in the sixth.
The Lady Bearcats are scheduled to play at 6 on Wednesday night at District 3A-4 tournament host Danville against the winner of today’s Cedarville-Charleston game.
