Senior Emma Ferguson could not be off to a better start as a Lady Bearcat golfer.
Ferguson (above left) posted the lowest round of the day for the second time in three days, in just her second round of high school golf, Wednesday at the Waldron Country Club.
“I hate that she has waited until her senior year to play,” said head coach Jake Fennell. “She is going to be a big help to us this year. She has good hand/eye coordination, and she wants to be good. That is sometimes half of the battle.”
Ferguson and a golfer from the host school both posted a round of 48 Wednesday. However, Ferguson’s sister, Anna (above middle), shot a 51 and Baylee Parnell (above right) carded a 54 for a team total of 153 to outpace the host school by eight strokes.
Also competing for the Lady Bearcats was Kaci DeWitt.
The only other school of with at least the three golfers necessary for a team score, Mena was 21 strokes back.
Mansfield and Charleston were also represented.
In boys play it was Bryce Eaves leading the Bearcats with a round of 40, the Bearcats shot a team score of 128.
Cutler Haller, in his Bearcat debut, shot a 43, and both Jace Washburn and Parker Smith both shot a 45 to complete the team scoring.
Landen Ritchie and Tayden Washburn were also on the course for the Bearcats.
Mena won Wednesday’s event with a 115.
Bearcat and Lady Bearcat golfers will play again today in Russellville, in an event hosted by Dover.
