When the first quarter ended during Tuesday night’s benefit game in Dardanelle the Bearcats were at the Sand Lizard 44-yard line.
At that point the junior varsity teams left the field and the regulars saw their first action of the night. It took the Bearcats just three plays to score.
The scoreboard read 7-0 after Jace Washburn went 17 yards for the touchdown and Oliver Loaeza kicked the point after.
Highlights from that point were few and far between.
A 67-yard run on Dardanelle’s second snap of the ensuing possession set up a fourth-and-goal score from the 2 to tie it and the Sand Lizards would score 28 unanswered points on the way to a 28-14 win.
The Bearcats got one touchdown back on a 10-yard run by Rhett Nietert with 2:54 to play.
The rushing attack would be a balanced one for the Bearcats Dylan Todd would be the leader for with 48 yards on four carries.
Hurt by two sacks, Washburn had 46 yards and sophomore Brody Chambers, logging nine carries with Hunter Warren and Damari Poole in street clothes, finished with 45 yards.
Defensively it was Seth Wilson making six solo stops to top the tackle chart.
The Bearcats will open the 2024 season by hosting Poteau, Okla., on Friday, August 30. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
