Brown Wins Two Sets Against Conference Opponent

Playing on her home course for the first time this season Angie Brown started the process of staking claim to a high seed in next month's tennis district tournament .

Brown took the Marcelle Phillips City Park courts against a pair of players from Atkins, the first conference opponent for the Lady Bearcats this season. She on her first set by a 6-3 count, then took a second one, 6-2.

Though typically a doubles player Raelynn Franklin played singles on Tuesday and made it a sweep for the Lady Bearcats with a 6-2 win.

Atkins had a male player make two attempts at seeding points but after topping Taylor Shaver, he ran into Noah Harrel, who took a 6-3 win in his first outing of the season.

Daxton Bowman also won took a set by a 6-2 count.

In girls doubles play the squads split with Mary Haynes pairing with Joslin Combs (shown) taking a 6-4 win and Malena Loftin and Zoie Jones also sweeping their opponents 6-0.

Sisters Emma and Anna Ferguson suffered their first set loss of the season in a narrow 6-4 decision and Atkins earned a split with a win over Baylee Parnell and Harley Fitzjurls.

Atkins had a shortage of boys but did put two doubles teams on the court. Aiden Carter and Wesley Fonseca swept their opponent but Hunter Pollard and Jaxon Harger dropped their set.

Due to the shortage, Whit Kendall and Harger took the court against teammates Gabe Draper and Aayden Hill and took bragging rights with a 6-4 set win.

The Bearcat and Lady Bearcat tennis teams are on the home courts again on Thursday, hosting Paris with a first serve set for 4 p.m.
