In a night full of big plays Callen Montalvo ran for three touchdowns and a pair of two-point conversions and the Booneville Junior High Bearcats thrashed Paris 38-6 Thursday night at Bearcat Stadium.

Montalvo’s touchdowns came on just five carries, the first of which was a short 2-yard run to finish a drive that started at the Bearcat 46 after a 29-yard punt return by Montalvo.

Montalvo ran for 118 yards as the Bearcats improved to 3-0.

Hayden Daniel, who had his share of big plays, ran for the conversion and an 8-0 lead.

Daniel rumbled 78 yards for an apparent touchdown but a flag brought it back so Montalvo went 83 yards the next play and it was 14-0 with 7:18 left in the first half.

The next Bearcat possession would also be a single play drive with Drake Brackney tossing a pass to Daniel who went 88 yards for a touchdown.

Sandler Miller, who ran for 81 yards, added a conversion run to make it 22-0.

The Bearcat defense and Braxton Hubble, who had five solo stops would quickly force an Eagle punt, but it was muffed and recovered by the Eagles.

The extra possession led to a 62-yard scoring drive by the Eagles to make it 22-6 on a 35-yard pass play.

Coming out of the halftime break the Bearcats scored twice in 2:06 to make it 38-6.

The first score was a 5-yard run by Miller that Montalvo followed up with a conversion and it was 30-6.

After Edwin Garcia picked off a pass and deflected by Dalton Schmidt and took it back to the Eagle 19, a holding penalty gave Paris a little breathing room, and Montalvo a chance at more yardage.

The freshman went 25 yards and added the conversion and it was 38-6 with 4:09 left in the third quarter.

Aiden Rhinehart, Cooper Smithson, Caiden Poore, Kenan Matheson, Wyatt Danekas, Garcia, and Rowgan Haller kept the Bearcat offense on track the rest of the way, pushing the total for the night to 419 yards.

The Bearcats are home again next week for a 7 p.m. kickoff against Lavaca in the Conference 3A-1 opener.
